Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform equipped with WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent transceivers will allow Telekom Srbija to deliver 800 Gb/s across a new 150-kilometer fiber route between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Cisco ® OSFP 800G transceiver modules provide 800 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 2x 400GE, 4x 200GE, and 8x 100GE connectivity options, complying with the Octal Small Form Factor Pluggable (OSFP) MSA for pluggable transceivers. The modules comply with the OSFP MSA configuration with integrated closed. WaveLogic 5 Extreme is a high-performance optical signal processing chip used in fiber‑optic network gear to send far more data over the same strand of glass by encoding and decoding complex light patterns. For investors, its importance lies in enabling carriers to boost capacity and offer faster. 800 Gigabit Ethernet (800GE) routing is the next generation IP networking technology enabling operators to upgrade router interfaces to 800 Gb/s. The network upgrade targets higher-capacity, lower-latency transport to support regional traffic growth, 5G readiness. Majority of the switch ports in AI back-end Networks to be 800 Gbps in 2025 and 1600 Gbps in 2027, showing a very fast migration to the highest speeds available in the market. These challenges are forcing innovation to happen at all levels, including pluggable modules. Developments in three distinct areas are needed for 800G deployment: optical modules and direct attach copper (DAC) cables, switch ASICs, and 800GE.
