Process:Strip the protective coating from the fiber ends.Clean the bare fibers with isopropyl alcohol.Precisely align the fiber cores using a fusion splicer.Apply an electric arc to melt and fuse the fibers.Protect the joint with a heat-shrink sleeve to restore mechanical strength. Advantages:Faster and simpler to perform than fusion splicing.Lower equipment cost and easier setup.Suitable for temporary connections or quick repairs. Disadvantages:Slightly higher signal loss and back reflection compared to fusion splicing.Less durable and stable, making it less ideal for long-term or high-performance networks.ApplicationsFusion splicing is preferred for long-haul telecom, data centers, and high-performance networks where low loss and reliability are critical.Mechanical splicing is often used for field repairs, temporary networks, or situations where speed and cost are more important than minimal signal loss .
