Insert optical module

Insert optical module

Insert optical modules carefully by following ESD precautions, aligning the module correctly, and securing it without forcing, while keeping dust caps in place until connection.Preparation and SafetyPower and ESD Protection: If possible, power down the device. If hot-swap is supported, proceed with caution. Wear a grounded ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves to prevent electrostatic discharge that can damage the module or port .Inspect the Module and Port: Check the optical module for any visible damage, ensure the gold contacts are clean, and verify the lever or latch mechanism is functional. Inspect the device port for debris or damage .Keep Dust Caps On: Leave protective dust caps on both the module and fiber connectors until ready to connect. Dust and contamination are major causes of link failure .Insertion StepsIdentify Orientation: Locate the alignment key or groove on the module and match it with the port orientation. Do not force the module if it does not fit; try flipping it if necessary .Insert the Module: Gently slide the module into the port until it clicks or seats fully. For CFP modules, push horizontally using even force with both thumbs and ensure it reaches the stop position .Secure the Module: If the module has a lever, latch, or screw rods, engage them to lock the module in place. This prevents loosening due to vibration or collision .Connect Fiber Jumpers: Only after the module is securely installed, remove the dust cap and insert the fiber jumper. Ensure the fiber connector is properly latched and aligned. You may hear a slight click or feel a vibration when fully inserted .Post-Insertion ChecksVerify the LINK indicator on the device port is steady green, indicating proper operation .Ensure all fiber connections are labeled correctly and tidy up cables to avoid stress or bending beyond the recommended radius .If the module is not in use, always replace dust caps on both the module and fiber connectors to prevent contamination .Key PrecautionsNever touch the gold contacts or optical bore of the module.Avoid excessive force; forcing a module can damage the port or transceiver.Maintain proper bend radius and avoid twisting or pulling on fiber cables during connection .Remove fiber jumpers before removing the module, and use the lever or latch to gently extract the module . Following these steps ensures safe installation, reliable connectivity, and longevity of both the optical module and the network device.
